It’s finally time to give you all a New York update. To start with i’m in NY, i suppose some might not have known this. I arrived just over a month ago on a four month stint before my girl and I fly off to Argentina for New Years celebrations and a bit of travel. My first month here, alone, was without event. I worked in the store and tried without luck to get a bit of work, but nothing much came. Then Jeanie arrived.
Still sporting a possibly rediculous beard i spoke to people at the US Census to no avil. I went in and filled out the paperwork for the concierge job/company/people, whatever and where i was hopeful upon entering those ideas quickly vanished. With this being the case i quickly settled into the satisfying but unproffitable job of helping mom. Then Jeanie arrived.
What was it about her arrival that kicked me into action? Perhaps it was her curls? Or simply the realization that in three months we were heading to Latin America and unless we had enough money we would not have the pleasure of staying there very long! And so the brain started to work and i started to look around at this depressed city in this decaying nation and i came up with a few new ideas. First i called in on the hospitals. Not because i am ill but because i was told they have lots of reception and other menial jobs that pay well. This didn’t work to well for me, at least not as of yet and it’s been a few weeks since i filled out the aplications, so i’m not too hopefull! The next idea was to work as an extra on tv and movie sets. An ex girlfriend of mine had a roomate that did this work, and as it turned out i have at least two customers that do this work. I went into an office, one reccomended to me by both customers and payed the man twenty-five dollars to take my photo. I then waited. A week went by when i got the details that would allow me to go online and submit for work. For a week i did this to no avil, but i wasn’t giving up just yet, with one job i would make back my invesment. I delved deeper, finding jobs on the site i couldn’t apply for without joining another company i decieded to do so. Again twenty-five dollars and again submissions, but this time with one major difference. I shaved. Having spoken to Jeanie about it the decision was made, i had to look more like everyone else, and this meant shaving. Within twenty-four hours of giving over thirty dollars to the new company i had a call and had three days booked for work! Yesterday i had another call, and today another, on Monday i’m working on some doctor show called Mercy, and that’s quite cool! Jeanie has arrived.
This morning i was not able to be on the set of Law & Order because i was in an office listening to a man talk about conventions for an hour. The Law and Order people wanted me at their beck and call all day, i just couldn’t fill the role. CTI Convention Staffing needed me in the morning and i wasn’t willing to break the meeting, this is another carrer path i’m walking down. Seven years ago my mother worked for these people when she arrived in New York City and i suddenly got the idea a few days ago, before Law & Order called that perhaps i could do this work. Deperate people seek desperate jobs!
Jeanie is sitting and watching Lost right now. I can’t get on Lost, they are in Hawaii, but it could have been cool! I have three months left and perhaps i will make enough money for us to spend lots of time in South America, lets hope so! I have a little bit to say about Linux but i’ll do so in the next post.
Love, Jeffrey
