It’s hard for me to put my time in Asia into words. Just talking about it is easy enough, but when one has to summarize five years and hundreds of feelings, places, and incidents it’s hard. Sadly I’ve not yet been everywhere in Asia. If you look at Central Asia I’ve been to none of it. My concentration has almost always been on South East Asia (SEA). I suppose this is because SEA is by far one of the easiest travel destinations I’ve been to on Earth. There are few simpler entry points to travel than Thailand.
Thailand is the one country where I’ve spent the most time. This is not due to any great love or affection for Thailand; it simply seems to be the way it worked out. At one point I spent a large amount of time on an island I refer to as Paradise. Don’t bother to ask me the name of Paradise as I won’t reveal it. For me it’s now Paradise Lost, as I’ve fallen out with the island but I still won’t give the name! Perhaps if you’re clever you can figure it out once I post some stories about it!
Moving past Paradise…my time in Asia has been disproportionately positive I’m happy to report. The palm plantations in Malaysia, dolphins in Bali, sunsets everywhere, sitting in Viet Nam eating Korean food with my mom, go-go bars and pool halls, beaches, rivers, lakes, ice cream and sticky rice; it’s simply fantastic.
I could write this introduction running ten pages with ease, at which point almost nobody would reach the end. Then any comments would be about how long winded I am, so I’m not going to do this. If one looks at South, South East, and North Asia I’ve not been to all the countries but a decent amount of them. Therefore, ask away, or read away and I hope you enjoy. My best friend has been and seen more than I have, so if I can’t answer you then Stefan can!
P.S. I’m looking to move to Laos in September, so if you know of any teaching jobs let me know!
